Things You'll Need:
- Styrofoam Ball, 1-1/2"
- Assorted ribbons, 1/4"-3/8" wide (model shown uses grosgrain, curling, sheer, and satin)
- Ruler
- Wooden skewers, two
- Heavy glass or jar
- Scissors
- Low-temp glue gun and glue sticks
- Thick, white craft glue
-
Step 1
Cut several 3-1/2"-4" lengths from a variety of ribbons. If using curling ribbon, cut 7"-8" lengths. Curl ribbons before attaching to foam ball.
-
Step 2
Insert one skewer into bottom of ball. Holding skewer, place dot of white glue on ball surface. Center one ribbon length over glue dot and use second skewer to push ribbon 1/4" into foam ball, twisting slightly to secure. Remove skewer.
-
Step 3
Continue adding ribbons in same way until entire ball is covered. Place skewer in heavy glass or jar to let ball dry.
-
Step 4
Remove skewer. Cut 6" ribbon length. Knot ribbon ends to make hanging loop. Apply glue to knot and use skewer to push hanger into top of ball. Let dry.

on 10/15/2009 Great idea, the glue will keep the ribbons secure. I think I'll try this when I don't have cats, or just for gifts. Every tree I have ever had seems to turn into a cat tree.
