This is one industry that has had it's fair share of a "bad reputation". Horror stories of people losing large sums of money and going broke, when the company they had joined, promised otherwise (I myself have had my fair share). There are Home Based Businesses that do deliver, but it's pretty sad when the "misleading ones" spoil it for the rest. Here's what to look out for when choosing the right one for you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Pen & paper for notes
  • An open mind
  • A little faith in yourself
Step1
The Internet should also be listed as one of the wonders of the world in our age and time, but isn't it sad how there are literally thousands upon thousands of people who believe everything they read and see on it? Pop-ups and ads stating you are the 1,000,000th visitor and that you have won some sort of a prize...you know the story. So let's cut the chase and dive right into it shall we? There are a couple of things you will want to look out for when choosing a Home Based Business. Let's look at a few of them.
Step2
The Product or Service There is absolutely no use trying to build a particular Home Based Business if the product or service it offers is no good. That would be the first thing you would want to look out for. There are many niches you can choose from, so you would want to choose something that would be in your interest, something you think you would be able to sell. Examples would be - health products, gifts & retail products, telecommunications, cosmetics, etc.
Step3
The Compensation Plan This would be the most important aspect when choosing the right business. When you find the product or service that interests you, you want to see how their compensation plan is laid out. Many a comp plans sound pretty simple only to find out that you need to meet very challenging and at times extremely difficult requirements before you can qualify for payments. This is where most people get discouraged because they don't do the research in their compensation plan and end up losing money instead of making it. An easy way of checking out a particular business is to do a google search for reviews on it. If there are more negative reviews then positive, you might want to reconsider choosing a different business. You want to look for a compensation plan that's easy to accomplish goals and is fair to it's representatives.
Step4
Other Factors You're going to be promoting your business. Are there any sign-up fees? Or is it free to join? If so, how much? $10 or $1000 to join? It's the little things like these that could get you a sign-up or not. How about shipping? Are there any extra charges? Do they even ship to your area? So you want to keep an alert mind to all the little elements and how it will affect your business and prospect's decisions.
Step5
My Personal Experience When I first got involved with a Home Based Business, I signed up with a particular company in the "Health Business". I got so caught up in all the hype that I failed to check out the compensation plan before I signed up. The product was absolutely amazing and was yielding results, but the compensation plan was extremely difficult to achieve. I quickly learned that in order receive certain payments and bonuses, I had meet "certain requirements" and those were very hard to achieve. I was spending up to $240 a month and was not making any money at all. I would watch the videos of the people on top receiving checks and payments, driving their nice cars, telling you to build your business in an attempt to motivate you, but the truth was it wasn't motivating me at all. It actually made me feel sick and angry in that it seemed like they saying "you keep spending while we keep collecting". I eventually dropped out and decided to do the research before joining another company. I was extremely interested in the health business because everyone wants good health and it's a billion dollar industry. So I checked out a few and finally found one that suited me. Here are some of the points of this company(www.pureliveliness.com) that impressed me - *It's a great product that's extremely affordable *No sign-up fee, Free to join *Compensation Plan is easy and fair

Tips & Warnings

  • In summary, there are many other articles that offer good advice in choosing the right Home Based Business. I just hi-lighted the main points to look out for. If you did join a business sometime in the past and things didn't work out for you, don't lose heart. Do the research and you'll find what you're looking for. Look out for the little things and don't rush into something if you are still unsure about it. If a particular site puts a time frame on joining or you'll miss out, stay clear of it. It's a marketing scheme to create a sense of urgency, forcing the reader to sign-up. God bless.
