Alaska is your mecca if your idea of a relaxing vacation is fishing for some quality fish. Known for its King Salmon, Monster halibut, and numerous rivers and streams filled to the brim with trout and salmon. You'll be in fishing heaven.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

One of the first steps to choosing your Lodge is to decide what type of fish you would like to fish for. This could be halibut fishing, fly fishing or salmon fishing. Make sure that the fish you are wanting to fish for is in season.

  2. Step 2

Next would be to do some research on the different regions of Alaska. Each one offers excellent fishing. The more inland lodges offer lake, river, and streams for some great fly fishing. The coastal lodges will take you out on a boat for saltwater fishing which is your larger fish.

  3. Step 3

Now it is time to choose your lodge. Do your research here. There are hundreds available, all with different services including plane, auto, boat, and comfortable lodging. Internet searches are great for finding a lodge. Email the lodge with your questions, availability and travel. Also check the different packages they all offer.

  4. Step 4

Even though the season is during the summer months, it is still good to pack with appropriate apparel and rain gear. Warm clothing is a must, as the temperature can dip down fast. Like their fish, Alaska is famous for their monstrous mosquitoes, so whether your inland or on the coast insects can rain on your parade so include generous amounts of repellent.

  5. Step 5

If your concerned about transporting your trophies home, email the lodge before you make your reservation. Most lodges will offer smoking, vacuum packing and the freezing of your fish, and will pack up in dry ice. For some this is included in the price, for some it is an extra fee. Also, call the airlines, if your flying. There might be an extra fee involved so it might be good to plan for it.

  6. Step 6

Most lodges will know the daily limits set by the Alaska Fish and Game department. It would be good to check before hand to see what your limits are. Also you can check to see what your fishing license will cost.
