Step 1
For New Stains
Rinse a washcloth with very warm water and blot the stain. Use a small amount of dishwashing liquid on a dry, medium bristle brush and gentle try to brush out the stain. Blot again with warm water. -
Step 2
For Old Stains
Follow step one to get as much of the stain out as you can and then mix 2 cups water for every 1 cup of lemon juice and pour into a plastic spray bottle. Spray area and gently scrub with a medium bristle brush. -
Step 3
For Minor Smells
Lightly spray lemon juice (from a spray bottle) and allow to dry. Then sprinkle baking soda on the area, let sit for an hour and vacuum. -
Step 4
For Major Smells
Mix equal parts cornstarch and baking soda in large bowl.
Lightly dust the entire carpet area with mixture. Let stand at least twelve hours. Vacuum twice and leave an open box of baking soda in the room.
For some major smells in your carpet, the only alternative may be to take out and reinstall the padding underneath.

on 11/17/2008 Those are some great ideas you have suggested. but I must say, a great stain remover that has worked for me is Gonzo stain remover. It works wonders, plus it is environmentally friendly. Check it out on http://www.magicamerican.com/
