Do you have a lot of paper laying in your garbage can that is going straight to the dump? How about using this super easy way to make your own beads for all kinds of jewelry instead? It helps the environment and gives you an excuse for a good time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • plain white paper (can have words or drawing on it as long as it is not colored).
  • water
  • large pot
  • stove
  • glue
  • needle or toothpick
  • string
  1. Step 1

Take the paper and shred it into tiny pieces. Large pieces will proove harder to mold in later steps. The smaller, the better. Place the shreds of paper into a bowl large enough to hold every bit and hot water.

  2. Step 2

Set a large pot to boil on the stove. Once the pot is boiling pour enough water into the bowl with the paper in it to right above where the is. Allow this to set for a little over an hour. Stir every few minutes. After an hour has passed, pour out all water and keep the paper in the bowl.

  3. Step 3

Take the paper and squeeze out all the water you can manage. Take a small bit of the paper and roll it with the palms of your hands it into the shape of a bead you want. Do this to all of the paper. Take the needle or toothepick and drill a small hole in each bead. Squirt each with glue and roll the glue into the paper beads. Let them sit for about 3 days, occasionally rolling them and going through the hole with the needle. Do this a few times a day to ensure the bead is the perfect shape.

  4. Step 4

After the third day, if they are hard, you can paint them. Then, take the string and put them through it to make your jewelry. Now go out and let your friends admire your jewelry that they will never guess was handmade.
