Things You'll Need:
- Paper
- A pen
- A free weekend
- Your fiance
-
Step 1
Begin by making a list of things that you want or need. Many stores that offer gift registry have sample lists on their web sites. You can check out a good registry list at Bed Bath & Beyond's website. Whether you start from scratch or use a pre-made template, make sure you modify the list to include other items that you would like.
-
Step 2
Pick the stores you would like to register at. Try to limit your choices to three, and choose stores that will be convenient for your guests. After all, they are the ones making the effort to purchase the gifts.
-
Step 3
Choose a day and time to go to the stores you would like to register at. Make sure your fiance is available at these times, as you will want to do this together. It may be best to go to the stores on a weeknight, when they are less crowded.
-
Step 4
The store will likely provide you with registry instructions and a scanner. Read and follow the instructions carefully, and then begin walking through the store. Scan the items that you want, and then cross them off of your list. Write the name of the store next to the item, so you know where you can find all of the items on your wish list.
-
Step 5
Visit all of the stores you plan to register at. When you are finished, revise the registry lists online, if possible. Make sure there are no duplicates or missing items.
-
Step 6
Many stores provide free registry cards to send out with shower or wedding invitations. Obtain as many of these as you need, or create some yourself. Now you will be ready to inform all your guests of your gift requests.
-
Step 7
After invitations have been sent out, you may receive some gifts in the mail. After receiving these gifts, or presents from your wedding shower, re-evaluate your registries online. You may need to update them if guests purchased off of your registry but did not let the cashier know who the purchase was for. Keep your registry updated to avoid duplicate gifts. Follow these steps, and you are sure to receive wonderful gifts for your wedding.

on 8/2/2009 I would also recommend visiting www.itsmygiftregistry.com - there you will be able to add items from any store, anywhere. Not only will it save you time, it will also give you options to add anything from a much needed spa package to allow others to contribute to your honeymoon by giving you a cash gift.
