Gasoline is a very volatile odor and will take time to remove. Here are several steps that will help.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • ventilation
  • febreeze
  • baking soda
  • shampoo
  • carpet powder
  1. Step 1

Begin with the mildest treatments. Be sure to spot-test your carpet first, to be sure the treatment won't leave stains or marks.

  2. Step 2

Keep the area well-ventilated. This is the most important, most effective remedy for the odor.

  3. Step 3

Try leaving baking soda or carpet powder on the gasoline-covered area for an hour to an entire day, then vacuum. This should help quite a bit.

  4. Step 4

Spray febreeze on the area to help mask the smell for a while.

  5. Step 5

After you've done the baking soda treatment, shampoo the carpet.
