How to Present a Thanksgiving Turkey
If you don't have a stash of heirlooms to present your prize turkey on, here's your opportunity to make a modern heirloom. Think "creative" not "cash flow." Here's what I mean. Does this Spark an idea?

Pick up a large wooden cutting board at a kitchen supply store like Williams Sonoma, Bed Bath & Beyond or Smart & Final.

If you don't already have one in your craft supplies, buy or borrow a woodburning tool. You can find them at craft stores like Michaels or in your crafty friend's tool box!

On the back of the board etch a reminder of this year's celebration, e.g. "Smith family Thanksgiving 2008."

Extend the tradition by using the board for many family dinners and special events. Be sure to etch something on the back each time-and voila! You have a family heirloom that helps to tell the story of your social circle.

Tips & Warnings
Loan the board to family and friends for their special events. Ask them to etch the date or occasion on back as well.
Never let children use the woodburning tool unattended.
