Not quite ready to ditch those summer mini-skirts yet? Look here for quick, easy tips on how to extend the wear of your skirts into fall without looking like you're just waiting for spring.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • thick tights, black and colored
  • knee-high boots (western or black)
  • long sweaters or tops
  • heavy jewelry
  1. Step 1

When extending the wear of summer skirts into fall, it's all about adding layers and few functional accessories. In other words, you'll want to avoid looking like you're willing to freeze your tush off in the name of vanity and long legs. Keep this in mind as we go on.

  2. Step 2

Start by ditching those summer sandals and buying slash-front ankle boots, western knee-high boots, or patent leather black boots. They'll give you a bit of coverage and warmth with little effort while looking appropriate for the season. (If you choose to wear western-style brown boots, skip the next step. Tights and western wear don't work.)

  3. Step 3

If pantyhose ever crossed your mind, please forgive me as I plead with you never to let such thoughts enter your head again. They're fine with business attire, but for casual days and weekends, stick with tights. For winter you can choose thick knit tights, but in the fall you might prefer nylon tights in any color other than "skin tone" natural. Normally, you'd let the color pop in a dark amethyst or daffodil, but basic black always works, too.

  4. Step 4

Ditch the tank tops and wear longer sweaters and layers. The length of your shirts likely touched just the top of your skirt's waisteline during the summer, but for fall they should come down and over it at least an inch for the sake of warmth and fall-weather appropriateness.

  5. Step 5

Finally, simply layer substantial accessories to give your summer skirts the appropriate fall look. Chunky rings, long necklaces, thick scarves, and loads of bangles give your look the illusion of weight and warmth, which is absolutely essential when taking warm weather clothing into the first weeks of autumn.

Tips & Warnings
  • As mentioned earlier, never pair tights with western-style boots. Wear these only in the first weeks of fall, while the weather still allows for a little bare leg, with flowing and feminine materials.
