Step 1
If it is cable that you've discontinued, dust off your DVD player and start an account at Netflix.com or Blockbuster.com. You'd be amazed at how many interesting foreign films, documentaries, international TV shows and movies there are that you'd never heard of! There's nothing on TV anyway, watch higher quality stuff by choosing what you watch!
-
Step 2
No television at all? Get that library card out--you can read anywhere at any time, and you will probably spend more time out reading at parks, in your garden, and at the lakeside or beach.
-
Step 3
Get some fresh air! Take an evening walk (the time most people are channel surfing), make plans with a friend, go to a coffeeshop and read!
-
Step 4
Listen to talk radio. If it is news, politics, or social issues that you like to follow, NPR is a great way to keep in touch with the world.
-
Step 5
If you have a couple favorite shows that you'd hate to miss without TV, watch them online! The internet is chock full of TV-like websites that offer everything you're used to watching on the tube.
