If you are planning on relocating, remodeling or just doing some spring cleaning to your home or garage, here are a few simple tips to make your sale as successful as possible.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Stickers for pricing
  • Grocery bags
  1. Step 1

The first and most important thing to do is advertise. Take out an ad in your local newspaper. Most of them have options for your ad like bold type, large headings like Yard Sale, Moving Sale, Estate Sale or Garage Sale to bring attention to your ad. List highly sought after items like toys, clothing, tools, etc. You can even advertise your sale for free on Craigslist.

  2. Step 2

Another way to advertise is by using yard signs in your neighborhood and even posting flyers on bulletin boards at your local stores. Try and include directions if possible.

  3. Step 3

When pricing your items, make sure they are clearly marked and price them SLIGHTLY higher than what you would like to get for them. That leaves room for haggling by customers. Also make sure all items are clean and not broken. Put your larger items out closer to the street so it draws attention to your sale and makes people want to stop.

Tips & Warnings
  • People are looking for bargains so don't sell too many high priced items. It will deter people from telling others about your sale. If you have lots of higher end items that you aren't willing to get a little less than what they are worth then try selling them another way other than at your sale.
  • Check the rules for your town or village. You may need to purchase a permit to hold a sale in your community.
