Play Telephone Charades

Telephone charades is a great icebreaker for parties. The classic party game of charades takes on an entirely new level of hilarity with this interesting twist. As the charade becomes more and more distorted as people pass the actions down, you will find yourself laughing uncontrollably at your old and new friends' antics. This game requires at least six people to play.

    Instructions

      • 1

Send five people out of the room. Pick them randomly, let them volunteer or elect them. Keep why they are being sent out of the room a secret to keep shyer contestants from protesting.

      • 2

Choose an action for the people outside the room to act out. If you only have one person left in the room then that person can decide by themselves, but it is more fun to come up with the topic in a group. Your action should be funny or silly to act out without words. For example, skydiving, washing an elephant or proposing marriage.

      • 3

Line up the five people you sent out of the room so that they are all facing the same way. Each person should be looking at the back of the person in front of them. Give them about 3 feet of room in between each person.

      • 4

Have the person at the "back" of the line act out the phrase you picked for the person in front of them. No one should guess out loud, but the person watching the charade should give a thumbs up when they think they know what the answer is. The other people in the line should remain facing forward with their backs to the charade.

      • 5

Pass the charade down the line of people. Once the thumbs up is given, the next actor takes over and acts out the charade for the person in front of them until it reaches the end of the line.

      • 6

Have the last one in line guess the phrase out loud. By this time the charade will have metamorphosed many times and may be completely different from the original actions. See how close you get to the original phrase by the end.

    Tips & Warnings

    • This game is more fun when at least two people other than the actors know the original phrase. However, it can be played with four people by simply placing slips of paper in a hat and having the first actor draw them and act them out rather than having a group select the phrase on the spot.
