Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Paper plate
  • Black construction paper
  • Black paint
  • Tan or cream-colored paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Brown construction paper
  • Glue
  • Black yarn
  1. Step 1

Place the paper plate upside down on a flat surface.

  2. Step 2

Use cream-colored paint to cover the entire surface of the back of the paper plate.

  3. Step 3

Cut a pilgrim hat shape out of black construction paper. The brim of the hat should be a little longer than the paper plate on each side.

  4. Step 4

Glue the pilgrim hat on the back of the paper plate, about 1/3 of the way down from the top.

  5. Step 5

Make two eyes, a nose and a mouth with black paint below the brim of the paper hat on the back of the plate.

  6. Step 6

Draw a 2-inch wide strip on brown construction paper, and cut it out.

  7. Step 7

Attach the strip of construction paper near the bottom of the pilgrim hat to form a band across it.

  8. Step 8

Paint a small buckle onto the center of the brown hatband with black paint. This can be a simple square shape without the center filled in.

  9. Step 9

Glue some yarn around the bottom of the hat on the back of the paper plate above the eyes. This will make the hair of your pilgrim; form it into curls or make short bangs.

  10. Step 10

Display your paper plate pilgrim on a shelf around your home, or glue some magnet pieces on the back of it and place it on your refrigerator.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be creative when making the face of your pilgrim; use wiggly craft eyes or buttons to give it a 3-D look.
  • Supervise young children who are using scissors.
