Keep your pets in mind. Certain plants, such as ferns and poinsettias, are poisonous to dogs and cats. Since many people spend most of their time in their living rooms, taking the chance and buying these types of plants isn’t a good idea if you have animals living in the home. Before you choose any type of greenery for your living room, check to make sure that it won’t be toxic to your pet.

Pick greenery that is relevant to the size of the room. If you have a relatively small living room, a giant plant will not flatter the space. For a bigger room, you have the option of choosing greenery that goes on the floor or one that sits on a table. For a smaller room, you may want to pick greenery that sits on a table or hangs in the air--so you save on space. If you spend a lot of time in your living room, you don’t want to feel cluttered and overwhelmed by a giant plant in addition to the furniture.

Consider buying an Aloe plant. Because of the shape of their leaves, the interesting look of them and the relatively small size, it makes a great plant to have in your living room. Aloe is also good for your skin. If you want to use some, you will have it readily available; all you have to do is pick off one of the leaves. However, before you use it, make sure to consult your physician, especially if you are pregnant or nursing.

They are not only beautiful, but they’re basic and fit into any style of living room that you have. Also, spider plants can easily be cut down and repotted if you need to do so.
