If you've ever moved to a new state, you know the issues that come along with getting yourself situated. You need a new driver's license and vehicle registration, and you need to register to vote, among other things. Fortunately, a Garmin Nuvi GPS can help guide you through the process by locating government offices and giving you turn-by-turn driving directions to get there.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Garmin Nuvi GPS
  1. Step 1

Turn on your Garmin Nuvi by sliding the power key on the top right of the device to the left. A welcome screen will appear followed by a warning to not use the device while driving.

  2. Step 2

Select "Where to?" on the menu screen, then select "Points of interest," the top right box on the following screen.

  3. Step 3

Use the arrow keys on the bottom of the next screen to scroll down until you see "Community." Select it and scroll down again on the next screen and select "Government office."

  4. Step 4

To find the specific office you are looking for from the list of all government offices that will populate on the following screen, select "spell" from the bottom task bar.

  5. Step 5

Using the on-screen keypad, type in all or part of the name of the office you are looking for. For example, type "motor vehicle" if you are searching for the nearest Department of Motor Vehicles.

  6. Step 6

Once your search is finished, select the result that best fits what you are looking for. On the next screen you will have four options. If you select "Go!" your Garmin Nuvi will prepare turn-by-turn directions for you. If you select "Save," you can save the listing under your favorites and come back to it easily at another time. "Show map" will give you the location of the office without driving directions and "Back" will take you back to the search results.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you save prior to getting driving directions, you can quickly access the destination again without having to re-search for it.
  • If you don't know which government office you need, find the listing for City Hall and call for advice.
