How to Housebreak a Toy Poodle
Housebreaking a Toy Poodle is easier than with some other breeds of dogs because they are such intelligent dogs. Although it's best to begin housebreaking as soon as possible, a Toy Poodle can learn at any age. Keep in mind that Toy Poodles have smaller bladders than larger breeds of dogs and need to go outside more often. Please see your vet if there is a persistent problem.

1
Decide where you want your Toy Poodle to toilet before you bring the dog or puppy home for the very first time.
-
2
Take your Toy Poodle to the designated dog toilet area before you bring the dog inside your house. Wait until they go before taking inside, if possible. Praise the dog a lot when she performs.
-
-
3
Observe your Toy Poodle carefully. When they walk around in small circles, sniffing the floor, they usually have to go outside.
-
4
Take your Toy Poodle puppy out every hour in the daytime until they are about a year old. Like kids, it takes time for them to get bladder and bowel control. If you don't have a fenced yard, you must take the Toy Poodle out on a collar and leash because of leash laws.
-
5
Make sure your Toy Poodle gets outside every 4 hours in the daytime and every 10 hours at night. They can't seem to hold their urine for longer than that.
-
6
Take your Toy Poodle to the vet if there is a lot of problems with accidents or if your dog suddenly has accidents after weeks of no accidents. This could be the sign of a medical problem. The sooner it's diagnosed, the sooner it can be treated.

Tips & Warnings
If you catch your dog in the act of using the house as a toilet, immediately pick the dog up and rush outside. Praise the dog for going outside.
You can also use crate training to help housebreak your Toy Poodle, but it's not entirely necessary. The crate must be your dog's safe haven, with soft cushions and special toys.
Keep doors to rooms with valuable furniture or fabrics shut when you can't be home with your Toy Poodle.
All dogs learn at their own rate. Some dogs take longer to get the idea than others.
Never rub your Toy Poodle's nose in a pile of excrement or a puddle of urine. This only teaches your dog to be frightened of you. Dogs have short memories and do not know why you are mad.
Never send your Toy Poodle to his or her crate as a punishment, if you decide to use crate training. They will not want to ever go into a crate if they think it's a form of punishment.
Don't use the newspaper method of housebreaking your dog. It only teaches your dog to go on newspaper, wherever it may be.
