Wisconsin is home to the annual Milwaukee Pugfest. The Milwaukee Pugfest is designed to raise awareness for Pug Rescues in Wisconsin as well as promote responsible breeding practices. The plight of pugs raised in puppy mills and by breeders who are not dedicated to the breed and rather just over-breeding pugs for profit is brought to the forefront. The vast majority of all pugs in Wisconsin Rescues are there because of irresponsible breeders who do not take care of the pugs needs. Pugs are wonderful and loving companions. They make great family pets and are excellent companions even if you live in a dog friendly apartment. If you are in the market for a pug it is wise to consider a rescued pug from a shelter that serves Wisconsin such as the Midwest Pug Rescue.

    Rescue a Pug in Wisconsin

  1. Step 1

Go to the Internet and click on the link to the Midwest Pug Rescue, which services the state of Wisconsin, or click on the link to the Milwaukee Pugfest, which also runs a pug rescue.

  2. Step 2

Fill in the application openly and honestly. This application will allow the Midwest Pug Rescue or Milwaukee Pugfest to match the correct pug with your family.

  3. Step 3

    Submit the application online.

  4. Step 4

Depending on the number of applicants and available pugs the rescue has, it might take a while for them to get back to you. Should you be accepted, you will receive a phone call from the pug rescue where they may tell you you are accepted, or may have you go through further questioning.

  5. Step 5

The Midwest Pug rescue will contact your references as well as your veterinarian.

  6. Step 6

After finishing the phone process you will be given further information on when and where you will be able to pick up your pug. There is often a charge for rescuing a pug from the pug rescue facility. This charge will be paid once you pick up your rescued pug. Good luck and enjoy your new companion for the next ten to fifteen years.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure you have a safe place for your pug to run around outdoors.
  • Pugs will spend the majority of their time indoors. They do not like extreme heat or cold.
  • Make sure your new pug has a safe, comfortable place to sleep.
  • Pugs often bark at bigger dogs.
  • Pugs shed. If you are sensitive to dander, a pug may not be for you.
  • After adopting a pug it might be stressed with the new environment and you may need to potty train him.
  • Pugs' eyes are delicate and should not be touched.
