Things You'll Need:
- Old plastic pill bottles with the lids
- Seeds, rice, beans or beads
- Acrylic paint (optional)
- Foam or sponge craft paint brush (optional)
- Hot water
-
Step 1
Soak off any labels by placing the bottles in a sink or bowl of hot water. Let the bottles soak until you can remove the labels easily. Scrub off any sticky residue from under the labels. If you decide to paint the outside of the bottles, the paint will not stick and bond well over sticky residue.
-
Step 2
Wash the bottles completely. Once the medicines are gone from old pill bottles, you don’t want any possible residue on any craft project. Dry the bottle completely after washing it so the fillers don’t rot or mildew if you use a food item to put inside the pill bottles.
-
Step 3
Paint the outside of the pill bottle with any color or combination of colors you like. The paint will apply more smoothly by using a craft brush instead of a regular paint brush. You don’t have to paint the bottles but it will make them more festive if you are using the noisemakers for a party or special event. Then paint the bottle tops on the outside. Be sure to let the paint dry completely, probably overnight.
-
Step 4
Fill the bottles ¾ full with whatever you have chosen to put inside of them. You might try putting different fillers in each to make different sounds. By not filling the pill bottles to the top you can make more noise when you shake the noisemakers.
-
Step 5
Put the top back on securely and shake your noisemakers!
