Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Adoption fee of $150–$400
  • Home suitable for a Shih Tzu
  1. Step 1

Visit the Lone Star Shih Tzu and Lhasa Apso website, shihtzu-rescue.com.

  2. Step 2

Explore the site. You will want to learn everything you can about Shih Tzus and their needs before applying to adopt a rescue. This is a long-term commitment that can last up to 20 years. Make sure you are serious about adopting this rescue dog before proceeding.

  3. Step 3

Click on the adoption application and fill it out honestly. Once you have filled out the application you can either submit it online, fax it to (281) 754-4851, or mail it to LSSTLAR, P.O. Box 1346, Pinehurst,TX 77362-13466.

  4. Step 4

You will go to the link for your references, including the name of your veterinarian, if you have one. If you currently have pets in your home you will be asked to fax the past two years' veterinarian records to (281) 754-4851.

  5. Step 5

You will receive a follow-up call at which time they will set up a home visit. It is important that all of your family members as well as all of your pets are present. The volunteers need to get a feel for the environment your rescued Shih Tzu would be living in as well as answer any additional questions you might have about your new dog.

  6. Step 6

If you're approved, a Shih Tzu will be placed in your home and you will sign the adoption papers. You must pay and adoption fee, which all but $75 is tax deductible.
