How to Find Rio de Janeiro's Best Tourist Spots

Rio de Janeiro is one of the largest cities in Brazil, second only to Sao Paulo. With an exotic atmosphere, amazing beaches, and rich culture and history, Rio de Janeiro welcomes millions of tourists every year, from all over the world. There is never a shortage of things to do in this vibrant Southern Hemisphere city. If you are planning on visiting Rio de Janeiro in the future, here are some of your best bets for tourist spots.

1. Bask in the sun at Copacabana. Copacabana is one of the most famous and loved beaches on earth. Copacabana has everything you could every want out of a beach--brilliant blue skies, soft white sand and gentle waves. There is also a historic district called Praia do Leme, which is one of the most well-known sections of Rio. Copacabana has tons of restaurants, bars, street cafes, nightclubs, hotels and shops.

2. Go to Municipal Park (Passeio Publico). This park is a lovely open space located in the middle of Rio. This park features various pavilions, paintings by Leandro Joaquin (who helped design the park), sculptures, and bronze statues. Be sure to take a look at the Caiman and Bird Fountains.

3. Take a stroll through Santa Tereza. Santa Tereza is a calm and quiet historical district of steep, peaceful streets and houses that are over a hundred years old. It is a very artistic area of the city, with many artists and intellectual types residing in the area. There are many scenic views from the trams that run across Santa Tereza. This is a haven amidst the large city of Rio.

4. Visit Praia de Prainha. This is a beautiful beach with notably high waves and extremely white, soft sand, and clear, clean water. The area attracts surfers and non-surfers in droves with its natural beauty and various water sports and activities. This is the perfect place to take advantage of Rio's often idyllic weather and amazing beaches.

5. Take a walk through Tijuca Forest. Tijuca Forest is one of the largest forest locations within a city in the entire world. The forest has approximately 60,000 trees, with the vast majority of trees being of a native variety. The park also has a lovely fountain by the entrance, called Grandjean de Montigny (made in 1846).
