How to Play the Raga Chandrakauns Scale on the Guitar

The Raga Chandrakauns scale is based on Indian classical music. It consists of five notes: a pentatonic scale. The step pattern of the scale is minor third, whole step, major third, whole step, and finally a half step. This is a very interesting scale that should be part of every musician's repertoire.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Begin by placing your forefinger on the third fret of the sixth string (low E string.) This is the root note of the scale.

  2. Step 2

    Play the sixth fret of the sixth string with your pinky. This is the note B flat, the second degree of the Raga Chandrakauns scale.

  3. Step 3

    Play the third fret of the fifth string (A string) with your forefinger. This is the C, the third degree of the Raga Chandrakauns scale.

  4. Step 4

    Continue by playing the seventh fret of the fifth string with your pinky. This requires a slight stretch that may take you a few tries. Practice this change slowly and gradually increase your speed. This is the note E, the fourth degree of the Raga Chandrakauns scale.

  5. Step 5

    With your middle finger play the fourth fret of the fourth string (D string.) This is the note F sharp, the fifth degree of the Raga Chandrakauns scale.

  6. Step 6

    Play the fifth fret of the fourth string with your ring finger. This is the final note of the scale.

  7. Step 7

    Complete this scale by playing step number 6 through step 1 in reverse order. You now know how to play the Raga Chandrakauns scale on the guitar.
