1. Visit your local grocer. Speak with a manager at a local grocery store to inquire about shipment times for produce, products and other merchandise that will be stocked in the store. Explain that you would like to use the newly delivered boxes after the daily or weekly shipment has arrived.Agree to arrive at the store at a designated hour to receive the boxes before each is removed from the store or crushed for disposal. Generally, most stores stock new products early in the morning or late in the evening. Arrange to arrive at one of these hours and provide the name of the manager who has given approval of the arrangement.

2. Check the "Free" category in the "For Sale" listings on Craigslist, where there are often free boxes on offer.

3. Ask family, friends and neighbors if you can borrow or use any moving boxes that may be stored in a garage, attic or storage unit. Determine if you will return the boxes or take ownership.

4. Ask at your local liquor store, which is often overflowing with the boxes the liquor bottles are shipped in.
