How to Play the Raga Kumurdaki Scale on the Guitar

The Raga Kumurdaki is based on Indian classical music. It is a pentatonic scale, comprised of five different notes. It has a step pattern of whole step, whole step, whole step, perfect fourth, and finally a half step. This is an interesting scale, worth adding to your repertoire.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Begin by placing your middle finger on the third fret of the sixth string (low E string.) This is the root note of the scale.

  2. Step 2

    Play the fifth fret of the sixth string with your pinky. This is the note A, the second degree of the Raga Kumurdaki scale.

  3. Step 3

    Play the second fret of the fifth string (A string) with your forefinger. This is the note B, the third degree of the Raga Kumurdaki scale.

  4. Step 4

    Place your ring finger on the fourth fret of the fifth string. This is the note C sharp, the fourth degree of the Raga Kumurdaki scale.

  5. Step 5

    Continue by playing the fourth fret of the fourth string (D string) with your ring finger. This is the note F sharp, the fifth degree of the Raga Kumurdaki scale.

  6. Step 6

    Play the fifth fret of the fourth string with your pinky. This is the final note of the scale.

  7. Step 7

    Complete this scale by playing steps six through one in reverse order. You now know how to play the Raga Kumurdaki scale on the guitar.
