Instructions

Wash your hair with a shampoo and conditioner made for curly hair. Products for curly hair usually help the curl form and make hair less frizzy when it's time to style it. Be sure to rinse the shampoo and conditioner out completely so the hair doesn't get weighed down by excess product.

After you have patted your hair dry with a towel, brush your hair with a wide-toothed comb. Brushes will only help to straighten out the hair. Use the comb to gently pick out the tangles in your hair. Part your hair the way you prefer using the comb after you have combed out the knots.

Squirt a dime to quarter size amount of curling cream or gel into your hand. If you have long hair use a quarter size amount. Rub the cream or gel together in the palm of your hands and then apply it to your hair in a scrunching motion. Place the ends of your hair in your palm and make a fist, and you should see some wavy curls form in your hair. If you want crunchy curls, use a curling gel. If you want softer curls, use a curling cream.

Place the diffuser on your blow dryer and turn the dryer on. Use the diffuser similar to how you scrunched your hair with the palm of your hand. Place the ends of your hair in the diffuser and then move the diffuser up to your scalp so the hair is scrunched in the diffuser. Start on the sides of your head and then work to the back. Continue this scrunching motion with the diffuser until your hair is completely dry.

Style your hair by putting a clip or headband on. If you used curling cream, use a light hairspray to set the curl. You will probably not need to use hairspray if you used curling gel.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear your hair curly for a couple of days, because sometimes it takes a while for your hair to get used to curling.

  • Get layers cut in your hair if it's heavy so that the curls will form more easily.

  • Apply root lifter if you want more body and fullness.

  • If you put too much product in your hair, it will weigh it down and your hair won't curl.

  • The heat from the hair dryer can burn your scalp or hair so don't stay in the same spot for too long.
