Instructions

  1. How to Decorate a Building Block Themed Birthday Cake

    • 1

Wash all the blocks you are going to use to decorate the birthday cake with hot water and dish soap. Then let the blocks dry completely.

    • 2

Alternating the colors of the plastic building blocks, begin putting a wall of blocks around the top edge of the cake. Press the blocks in firmly enough to bond to the frosting, but not too far that you won’t see the block. Go completely around the top edge with the blocks. Make sure the tops of the blocks are facing up.

    • 3

Repeat the same thing at the bottom edge of the cake where it is touching the plate so that you have a second ring of blocks at the bottom of the cake.

    • 4

Put random building blocks on the side of the cake. This looks good on a double- or triple-layered round cake. Make sure you face the top of the blocks towards you and the bottoms into the frosting.

    • 5

Place random blocks all over the top of the cake the same way. Make sure you leave room for the birthday candles in between them. One alternate option is to spell out the name of the birthday person on the cake with the building blocks. You can also add little figures to the top of the cake.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try not to push down on the blocks too hard or you'll ruin the shape of the birthday cake.

  • Be sure to remove the building blocks before you serve the pieces of cake so no one chokes on them.
