A simple little pin can show everyone what season and festive mood you are in. Pumpkins are a symbol of the end of harvest and the beginning of fall. These little pins can be crocheted quickly and add a fall touch to your wardrobe. Crochet several for your co-workers, or help your child make some for a pre-Halloween or Thanksgiving food sale at school.

Things You'll Need

  • Yarn
  • "I" crochet hook; "J" for a larger pumpkin
  • Safety pin
  • Thread and needle
  • Green felt
  • White tacky craft glue
  • Olive or tan chenille stem

Instructions

    • 1

      Chain 5, join to form ring.

    • 2

      Row 1. Double crochet six times in ring. Slip stitch in first double crochet.

      Row 2. Turn two double crochets in five double crochets; one double crochet in sixth dc. Slip stitch to join.

      Row 3. Push hook through first stitch.

    • 5

      Keep stitch one on hook and come back out through the second stitch.

      Yarn over and pull through all loops. Repeat with next two sets of stitches.

      Row 4. Finish by pushing hook through stitch on opposite side of pumpkin.

      Yarn over, pull through both stitches on hook. Yarn over and pull through again to fasten. Cut yarn.

      Push yarn end into the pumpkin shape. Sew top bar of closed safety pin on with orange thread.

      Glue on green felt leaf. Add a chenille stem vine if desired. Glue face with beads and felt if this is to be a Halloween Jack 'o lantern pin.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wrap chenille stem around a round toothpick to shape into coiled vine if adding to pumpkin.

  • Be sure to knot yarn securely when fastening off.
