How to Password Protect Pages in OneNote

Keeping notes on your computer is a common practice, and it is made even easier by Microsoft's OneNote program, which allows you to keep notes, move text, add pages and even sync up multiple computers. Especially with laptops, however, this ability can be detrimental. If you use OneNote to keep track of user names, passwords or private contact information, it could be at risk. To protect them, you can password-protect your files in OneNote.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Microsoft OneNote
  1. Step 1

    Buy, install and license the OneNote software on your computer (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Create your notebook or notebooks, and add any information that you want or need.

  3. Step 3

    Make sure that you are on the same page that you want to protect.

  4. Step 4

    Click "File" then "Password Protect this Section."

  5. Step 5

    Click "Set Password" in the dialog box, then type in your password in the box that pops up.

  6. Step 6

    Click "Set Password" and "OK" to protect your section.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do not lose your password. If you do, you cannot retrieve the encrypted files that you protected.
