Step 1
Know the details. Visit the Austin Wranglers cheerleading website ahead of auditions to know the dates, what to wear, what to expect and where everything will happen. The dance competition is usually in the summer and involves first sending a resume, photo and other materials to the dance team recruiter and then being invited to the audition. From there, hopefuls will learn a series of dance routines, and some will be cut. Finally, the remaining hopefuls will be asked to dance solo for the judges. Know all of this ahead of time.
-
Step 2
Practice dancing and get into shape. Being a cheerleader always requires being in great shape, but about a month before auditions, step up the training and fine-tune the dance. Styles and moves vary each season and depend on the choreographer's ever-changing taste, so be prepared for anything, including hip-hop, jazz, ballet and salsa. Take advantage of any classes offered by the Austin Wranglers ahead of the dance competition.
-
Step 3
Prepare in advance for the big day. Before of the cheerleading auditions, dancers will be informed what kind of clothes they should wear. In auditions, clothing requirements are set so as not to distract from the dance and to maintain a level playing field. Clothing usually consists of a form-fitting two-piece, flesh-colored tights and dance or athletic shoes. Try to wear the same thing each day of the dance competition to help the Austin Wranglers link a uniform to a face.
-
Step 4
Make friends and have fun. Not only will making friends release a lot of the pressure associated with the dance competition, it is also a chance to find a partner to dance with. In addition, one of the most important things about cheerleading is to smile and maintain a positive presence. By having fun and making friends, the attitude of team spirit will be detected and appreciated by the Austin Wranglers.
-
Step 5
Keep calm. The night before, have everything you need set out, including dance clothes that fit, directions to the dance competition and any other equipment or supplies that will be needed. While lying in bed, visualize a smooth, positive audition process. Imagine the dance getting the judges' attention, and picture being selected as an Austin Wranglers cheerleader. Mentally walk through the entire audition process so as not to overlook any important details. Get a good night's sleep, and don't forget to set the alarm.
