How to Make a Couple's Costume of Peas and a Carrot
Some couples go together just like peas and carrots. If you follow these instructions, you and a date can attend a costume party together like peas and carrots—literally. It’s a somewhat easy and unique costume that you can be sure won’t be duplicated at the party and can’t be bought in a bag.

- Orange shirt
- Orange pants/skirt
- Orange face makeup
- Stuffed rabbit
- Green hair spray
- Large can of vegetables
- Green shirt

The Carrot

Find orange clothing to wear from head to foot. A long-sleeve orange T-shirt and orange pants or an orange skirt with orange tights will work well. A “tiered” orange skirt can also give the impression of the ridges in an actual carrot.

Apply orange makeup to face and any exposed skin.

Pull up hair into a pony tail on the very top of the head.

Spray hair with green hair spray. This mimics the green leafs on the end of fresh-picked carrots.

Carry around a stuffed bunny rabbit (or, if you can find one, a child’s rabbit purse). If carrots attract one thing, it’s bunnies.
The Peas

Purchase a large can of vegetables. Go for the largest size that you can find that you think will fit on your head. A few days prior to the Halloween (or the costume) party, empty out the container and clean it.

Create a new "peas" label for the can.

Paste the new label onto the can.

Find green pants and a green shirt. Make sure both are “throw away” items you are willing to glue your “peas” on.

Take the Styrofoam balls, which can be found at most craft stores, and spray paint them green. They may take several hours to dry, so be sure to do this a few days in advance of the event.

Glue the Styrofoam balls to the green pants and shirt.

Apply green face paint to your face and anywhere else that needs to be camouflaged.

Stuff the can of “peas” with a towel or some other cloth until it rests somewhat comfortably upon the top of your head. Be sure to pad cloth around the edges of the can as well.

Tips & Warnings
The carrot costume works best for a girl or whichever member of the couple has the longest hair.
If you can’t find a large can, or it doesn’t fit properly, just find a green ski hat and cover it with Styrofoam balls as well.
