How to Use Microsoft OneNote

Microsoft OneNote is a very useful program that allows you to create notebooks and pages within those notebooks to track everything from projects at work to grocery lists to appointments. There is even a section for unfiled notes that you can create outside of OneNote as you are going about your business.

Instructions

    • 1

Buy a copy of Microsoft OneNote (see Resources below). Follow the instructions to install and license the program, and then open it.

    • 2

Read the demo notebooks if you are interested in learning about the program. Rather than trying to read help files, the instructions, tips and suggested pages are laid out for you in the forms of templates. The two templates that are open when you start are Personal and Work.

    • 3

Create a new notebook by going to "File" and choosing "New Notebook."

    • 4

Choose a template or start with a blank notebook. You can create a new section by going to "File" and selecting "New Section," or you can modify existing sections by clicking on the appropriate tab at the top of the page.

    • 5

Create new pages in each section by clicking "File New Section," or by hitting "Ctrl" and "N." You can also right-click at the right of the page where the pages are listed to create a new one.

    • 6

Store, sort and organize your notes with features like text boxes that you can move at will, different notebooks for different purposes, and even bulleted lists and tables.

Tips & Warnings
