Herbal essential oil contains potent compounds that are soothing and healing to the hardest working part of our body--our feet. From merely relaxing at the end of a long day to treating conditions to moisturizing dry scaly skin and even healing fungal infections such as athlete's foot, an herbal foot massage oil can be an effective way to get great results. The following tips will teach you how to make an herbal foot massage oil from a blend of aromatherapy essential oils.

From Quick Guide: DIY Essential Oils
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mixing bowl
  • 2 oz. olive oil
  • Peppermint essential oil
  • Eucalyptus essential oil
  • Dark glass bottle
  • Funnel (optional)
  • Socks
  1. Step 1

Pour the olive oil into a mixing bowl. Olive oil serves as a "carrier oil," which is typically used to dilute pure essential oils. It may be substituted with avocado, almond, jojoba or grape seed oil.

  2. Step 2

Add three to five drops of peppermint essential oil and two to six drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Mix thoroughly to combine the oils. Keep in mind that it is easier to add more if you use too little than it is to take some out if you use too much.

  3. Step 3

Pour the herbal oil into a bottle with a tight cap. Use a funnel to avoid spilling any. Cap the bottle tightly and place it in a warm, dark area for up to two weeks. This allows for the oils to truly combine.

  4. Step 4

Massage the herbal foot massage oil into your feet with firm, circular motions to work the oil deep into your feet muscles. Use your fingers and thumbs to apply pressure where required. Put on socks after your massage is done.

Tips & Warnings
  • Substitute the peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils with other herbal essential oils for different purposes. Use lavender for a soothing and relaxing massage. Consider citrus for an energizing, deep tissue rub. Try tea tree oil for a fungicidal massage.
  • When adding essential oils, keep in mind that a little does go a long way, because pure essential oil is highly concentrated.
  • Make a fresh batch of herbal massage oil each time. It is not recommended to re-use it because there is a possibility of cross-contamination. Dispose of your left over herbal massage oil down the sink and rinse it away with hot water.
  • Take care walking on a tiled or otherwise smooth floor with your just massaged feet, which will be slippery from the herbal massage oil.
