Step 1
Avoid wearing jeans to the wedding. Attending a wedding that is outdoors does not give you permission to dress as though you were going to a baseball game. A wedding is not the right place for a pair of jeans. Unless the invitation states that it is okay to wear jeans to the wedding, then it is best to not wear them.

Step 2
Wear a nice dress or skirt and blouse if you are a woman. Although you can generally get away with wearing a pants suit, keep in mind that most weddings take place when the weather is warmer. You will be a lot cooler in a dress and ultimately, it will be more appropriate for the wedding. If the outdoor wedding takes place during the autumn or winter, wearing a pants suit may not be such a bad idea.

Step 3
Find out what you should wear if you are a man. At some outdoor weddings, men can get away with wearing a button down shirt and a pair of khakis. A good example would be a beach wedding. At other weddings, you will be expected to wear a suit or tuxedo, however.

Step 4
Choose attire that is not entirely black. This is especially true if the wedding takes place during the spring or early summer, when all of the flowers are in bloom. Black is often considered acceptable to wear to a wedding. Since a wedding is such a joyous occasion, however, wearing colors which are not so dark and gloomy may be in your best interest.

Step 5
Avoid wearing sneakers or flip-flops to an outdoor wedding. You may think that wearing these informal shoes is acceptable for this type of wedding, but it often is not. Women should at least wear nice sandals, whether they have heels or not. Men should wear dress shoes. Unless the invitation says that you are allowed to wear flip-flops or sneakers, your best bet is to leave them at home.
