Things You'll Need:
- Whiffle ball
-
Step 1
Grip the whiffle ball with the holes facing down. Place your middle and index fingers together on the side of the ball and above the holes. Your fingers should simultaneously rest tightly along the seam of the whiffle ball.
-
Step 2
Place your thumb on the side of the whiffle ball. Be sure to place your thumb on the opposite side of where your middle and index fingers are placed. The thumb should rest on the seam.
-
Step 3
Place your pinky and ring finger on the bottom of the whiffle ball, resting each on the holes located on the bottom of the ball.
-
Step 4
This pitch should be gripped tightly and thrown as hard as possible without losing control. Also, the riser should be thrown with a whipping motion.
-
Step 5
Handle the riser by throwing the pitch sidearm style. The typical overhand throwing style will not produce the desired rising effect. This is where the challenge in throwing this pitch can lie.
