Are you putting a chain link fence together for the first time? The main objective when putting up a chain link fence is making sure it is strong and secure especially if you are putting one up for a pet. Although you can buy a gate that is already assembled for you, it is just as easy to put it together yourself. Gather your pieces and let’s get started.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Rails
  • Mesh fencing
  • Tension bars
  • Tension bands
  • Tie wires
  • Hinges
  • Latch
  1. Step 1

Slide on tension bands. The tension bands will go on the gate frame before you put the gate frame together. (These tension bands will connect to the tension bars later). You will want to put three bands on each side if you have a small gate. For a big gate you may need another. Connect gate frame pieces once the tension bands are on. This will be the outer frame of the gate to make your rectangular door shape.

  2. Step 2

Slide tension bar into mesh. You will need to do this for both sides of the door mesh. Take your tension rod or bar and weave it through the side loops of the mesh wiring.

  3. Step 3

Pieces will need to lie flat on the ground. Once you have the tension bars in the mesh, one side of the gate's tension bar and tension bands will need to be connected on the rails. The other side must be pulled tight to also connect the tension bar with the bands.

  4. Step 4

Remove the extra mesh wiring that would otherwise hang over the edge. Take this bar off of the bands first. Remove wire at the end of the tension bar and pull them out.

  5. Step 5

Put the bar back on the tension bands. Pull the mesh tightly because you want it to be a tight fit. (If the fit is not right simply take the bar off and make another wire adjustment). Place tie wire through the mesh wiring, around both the top and bottom rails. Approximately three tie wires for each rail. The wire will be held barely above the gate frame to ensure no movement.

Tips & Warnings
  • Hinges and latch are to be applied when hanging the gate.
