Going from strained baby foods to toddler food was a big concern of mine. I just wanted to know how do you feed a toddler. Here are some foods that I fed to my little one before he turned one.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Breads/Rolls
  • Bananas
  • Cheese
  • Quick oatmeal/Cream of Wheat
  • Frozen or canned vegetables
  • Value size jar of applesauce
  • Juice (I recommend V8 Fusion)
  • etc...(cont. reading)
  1. Step 1

I got to the point where Gerber was helping me to become more lazy. So I started with buying bigger jars of applesauce and mixing it with the baby oatmeal cereal but just making it a little more thicker. (A dollar for a value size Walmart jar or one dollar for 5 ounces of Gerber)

  2. Step 2

I keep pieces of whole grain wheat bread with me and goldfish baby crackers when we are out on outings. I also bring a bottle of Gerber bottled yogurt with me if I don't want to worry about formula spoiling. I bring V8 Fusion juice because it is a serving of vegetables and fruit in one juice serving.

  3. Step 3

I just buy the vegetables canned or frozen and mash them with a fork or you can buy a little cheap hand blender and mash it instead of straining their food. I also give him Gerber's Toast Sticks while we are cutting his hair...the toast is hard but we are there watching him and it keeps him busy sucking on it.
Other ideas are cooking a chicken breast and giving them small pieces. Anything Gerber makes you can make it and a lot cheaper to.

Tips & Warnings
  • Honey Nut Cheerios
  • Baby Goldfish Crackers
  • Bread/Rolls
  • Cheese
  • Applesauce
  • Frozen Vegetables/Canned Vegetables
  • Bananas
  • Yoplait Kids Yogurt
  • Potato Flakes (quick item to cook) I use a little chicken broth to give it flavor
  • I look at the baby foods in the jar and think why not give him a piece of blueberry muffin instead of blueberry puree :)
  • Always be with your toddler when eating these foods. I usually do a hardness test myself just to see if I will give it to him. If it takes to much teeth work then I don't risk it.
