How to Create Classy Fall Decorations

Usher in autumn with stylish decorations. The big keys are simplicity and color. Pick paints rich in amber, rust and honey-brown hues. Gather the materials from the woods or purchase them at an arts-and-crafts store. Several steps will ensure you get the "wow" factor.

Things You'll Need

• Glass vases
• Glass bowl
• Small glass containers
• Potpourri
• Spray paint
• Gourds
• Thistle
• Silk vines
• Decorative lights

Instructions

1. Get a tall, cylindrical, clear-glass vase and fill it with painted thistle. Use a tall, single thistle in a deep brown for a simplistic, striking effect. Use more thistle if you want contrast within the vase.

2. Create pieces with candles. Fill a large glass bowl with dyed water. Use a deep-orange food coloring. If the orange is too bright, mix with a little blue. Float a rich-amber votive in the center.

3. Pop open potpourri. Fill an array of small, decorative dishes around your home with fall scents. Most craft stores will sell autumnal fragrance mixtures infused with spice, pumpkin and cinnamon. Paint your decorative dishes to match the rest of your fall decorations.

4. You can buy regular green vines from your craft store and spray paint in subtle brownish and orange hues. Add dabbles of gold for highlights. Wrap them around your home’s banisters, table legs or anywhere else that could use a little fall color. For even more oomph, string the vines with small, decorative lights in a soft-white or golden hue.

5. Find a simple basket of any color and spray-paint with deep autumnal colors. Fill the basket with small gourds that are either au natural or also painted to match the basket and the rest of your decorations.

• For best results, use the same colors on all the decorations so you have a theme running throughout the house.

• Don’t spray-paint the potpourri or it will not smell very good.
