How to Grow a Garden on a Concrete Patio

Not having a yard doesn’t mean you can’t have a garden.

For those living in apartments, town homes or condominiums without yards, the dream of a fresh flower or vegetable garden might seem impossible. Just because you have no yard to call your own, though, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the beauty of flowers or savor delicious fresh home-grown vegetables. Here’s how to grow a garden on a concrete patio.

• Planting pots or containers suitable to hold soil and grow plants
• Planting soil
• Seeds/buds
• Water

1. Old wheelbarrows can be used as large planters and are very decorative.

   Decide what you would like to grow and purchase a container suitable for that flower or vegetable to grow in. Make sure the container is big enough to allow the plant to grow.

2. Tomatoes grown on a patio are pretty and delicious.

   Place planting soil in the container. Place the bulb or seeds into the soil and cover according to the instructions on the package.

3. If you don’t have a yard to plant flowers, plant them in containers and border your patio with them.

   Place the planting pot on your patio, arranging it so that the plant gets enough sun.

Tips & Warnings

• Planting pots with holes in the bottom to prevent over watering work great.

• Fresh home-grown vegetables are still fresh and taste good whether grown in a traditional garden or in a planter.
