Things You'll Need:
- 2-4 wire hangers
- Wire cutters
- Black pantyhose, black nylon knee highs, or fishnet pantyhose
- Duct tape
- Elastic bands or ribbon
- Needle and thread
- Scissors
- Glitter, fabric paint, feathers, or other wing embellishments
-
Step 1
Cut the hook off of each wire hanger above the twist. If you want wings with one section each, you will need two hangers. If you want wings with two sections each, you will need four hangers.
-
Step 2
Form the wing shapes by bending the wire hangers. If you are having trouble deciding on a shape, search the web for pictures of fairy wings. If you are making wings with two sections each, the upper section is usually larger/wider than the bottom section.
-
Step 3
Hold the twisted sections of the hangers together and arrange the wing sections. Wrap the twisted sections together with duct tape.
-
Step 4
Stretch the black pantyhose or fishnet pantyhose over each wing section. Cut a leg off for each section or use one knee high for each section.
-
Step 5
Secure the ends of the pantyhose in the center where the wing sections are connected by gathering the ends and wrapping around the center with duct tape.
-
Step 6
Wrap the duct taped area with extra pantyhose, scrap fabric, or ribbon to hide the duct tape. You can sew it in place or tie it.
-
Step 7
Attach two loops of ribbon or elastic to the center piece of the fairy wings to create arm holes. The wings can then be worn like a backpack.
-
Step 8
Embellish the fairy wings with glitter, sequins, markers, fabric paint, feathers, or any other decorations you like.
