How to Make an Edible Greeting Card

A greeting card is a great way of expressing how we feel to our loved ones. A card should not simply be picked up from the grocery store and signed on the way to the party. It should be a unique creation. There was a saying in the early twentieth century that stated, "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach." That is partly true if it is done through the use of a romantic and original greeting card. The following tips will teach you how to make an edible greeting card.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase edible paper. The website Tasty Foto Art sells it. Your local bakery may sell it too. Edible paper is usually wafer paper, also known as rice paper. It is usually used as a cake decoration, but it's tough enough to be written on as a greeting card or printed on using a regular computer printer. Of course, never eat the rice paper after you run it through the potentially toxic inks of your computer printer. For this card, you will use an edible pen to write your message.

    • 2

Lay out the edible paper on a clean serving plate. This plate should allow you plenty of working room. You want to prepare this card only about an hour or so before gifting it.

    • 3

Fold the paper in half so that it looks--presentation wise--like a traditional greeting card. You want the same feel and look in a basic sense.

    • 4

Add on edible stickers. You will find the link to a wonderful store with a ton of varieties when it comes to edible stickers in our Resources section. The website is called Kopy Kake. Spell the person's name, along with a greeting for the appropriate holiday, in your edible stickers. You want to make sure that the stickers match the holiday.

    • 5

Use an edible pen--and an edible pen only--to write a personal message on the inside flap of the card. Keep it more brief than you would a real card. After all, there is no way of preserving this card for all times. Any meaningful message will be quickly read when it comes to an edible greeting card. A simple expression of love and well wishes is sufficient.

    • 6

Close the card. Finish decorating its exterior. Add on anything that will make it more festive. Glue on candy bracelets, his favorite kind of chocolate and icing in his favorite color. You can even do a border on the card using icing in his favorite color.

    • 7

Place the card on a pretty plate. Forget sticking this in an envelope. This is dessert, a greeting card and an expression of love all in one. It will not be suppressed in a mere envelope. Have this next to a cake for optimal presentation. Keep it in the fridge until you are ready to present your loving card. Keep an eye on it. Children may be tempted to taste it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use your imagination to come up with new ways that your loved one can eat up the cards you give him...quite literally.

  • Never write with a regular ink pen on something that is meant to be eaten. This could be hazardous to your health if consumed.
