How to Clean Chrome

Classic cars and motorcycles have lots of chrome that needs to be cleaned regularly to keep up their appearances. The good news is that cleaning chrome doesn't have to take long or cost a fortune; in fact you probably have just what you need to get the job done right in your kitchen cabinets.

Things You'll Need

• Seltzer water
• Baby oil
• Vinegar
• Baking soda
• Ammonia
• Cola
• Green scouring pad

Instructions

1. Pour regular cola onto a soft cloth and rub all the chrome down to remove stuck-on debris such as mud, bugs and oil. Use more cola as needed. Rinse with water and dry with a towel.

2. Mix in a medium bowl approximately a pint of vinegar with three tablespoons of baking soda. It will foam and bubble; this is perfectly normal. Take a soft cloth and make circular motions on your chrome detail. Rinse with water and dry with a soft cloth.

3. Put on rubber gloves and pour some ammonia in a five gallon bucket filled with warm water. Use a soft cloth to clean all your chrome detail. Rinse off with fresh water and buff with a dry soft cloth.

4. Grab a green scouring pad doused with cola and use circular strokes to clean your chrome. Rinse with fresh water and dry with a soft cloth.

5. Pour some baby oil onto a soft cloth and give all your chrome a good rub. This method leaves chrome lustrous and showy in appearance; it’s also kind to your hands.
