Instructions

    • 1

Gather the sprout seeds you choose to grow. Rinse the seeds under running water.

    • 2

Place the seeds in the bottom of the mason jar. Cover with 1 to 2 inches of water. Cover the jar with cheese cloth and secure the cloth to the top of the jar with a rubber band. Let the seeds soak 12 hours or overnight.

    • 3

After the initial soak, drain the seeds. Cover them with water once again, swirl them around in the jar and then drain the seeds. After rinsing and draining, prop the jar up so that it tilts with the opening downward. This allows all the water to drain and helps prevent mold growth.

    • 4

Continue to rinse and drain at least two times per day, until you have a sprout growth of 1 to 2 inches. Depending upon type of seed used, this can take 3 to 5 days.

Tips & Warnings

  • Eat sprouts while they're fresh. Sprouts do not retain their freshness or nutritional value much longer than 2 to 3 days.

  • Sprout seeds can be found at natural food stores.
