How to Win Wars in Civilization Revolution for the XBOX 360

Unless you plan to concede to every threat your opponents make against your civilization, you will have to engage in battle before obtaining a cultural, economic, or, of course, a domination victory. Before waging war or refusing to accept an offer of peace, you should be sure your civilization is equipped to win every battle.

Instructions

    • 1

Devote one of your cities solely to the production of battle units. Try to settle this city in a location that will be easily accessible to your other cities, but least accessible to your opponents, such as on the coastline farthest from your opponents’ civilizations.

    • 2

Build barracks in your military hub city. Immediately research Bronze Working so that you can build Barracks in this city. Barracks automatically upgrade all new army units to Veteran Status, increasing their combat skill, and allowing you to build Archers.

    • 3

Build roads to all cities. As soon as your cities have started producing enough gold, build roads leading from your military hub city to the other cities for quick disbursement of military units. Remember, just because you have a city devoted to building battle units, your other cities still need protection of their own.

    • 4

Tailor your research goals to military technologies early on. For example, Flight, Industrialization, Steel, Combustion, Metallurgy, Steam Power, and Gunpowder are essential to building a superior army.

    • 5

Set all of your galleons, cruisers, battleships, and submarines to Defend. If possible, send some of your ships to the ports of your opponent’s cities, preventing her from producing additional warships from that city.

    • 6

Develop units into armies. Once you have three units of the same type, you will have the option to develop an army of that unit, which is more powerful. Always use armies, not individual units, when engaging your opponent in order to increase your likelihood of victory.

    • 7

Choose your battles wisely. Always engage units in battles against inferior opposing units. This is the key to winning wars. Horsemen are more likely to be defeated by archers. Catapults and riflemen will usually take the most damage from horsemen armies, but are more successful with individual projectile units, such as archers, especially when supported by other units. Fighter jets are most susceptible to rifleman attacks, where bomber wings are practically immune to defeat against any land unit. Battleships are the ultimate warship, while submarines tend to have a weaker defense. Tank and Artillery units are the ultimate projectile units can usually conquer a city without the support of other units.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try different combinations of battle units and remember to review the statistics that appear on the screen prior to battle in order to avoid defeat.

  • Remember that even where your army is given the “Advantage,” it may still lose the battle.
