How to Meditate on Chakras

Chakras act as energy generators for your body. They pull in energy, or chi, to your body and energize your mind, your body and your intuitive faculties. There are seven main chakras, each regulating important functions. Each of these chakras were designed to work in perfect harmony, but can become blocked due to negative emotions and physical illnesses. When chakras become blocked, you often feel “out-of-sorts” in the area ruled by that particular chakra and can even become physically ill. It is extremely important, therefore, to regularly align and unblock your chakras with meditation.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to a quiet private space where you will not be disturbed for at least 20 minutes. Close the blinds or curtains, and sit down in a comfortable chair, keeping your spine straight. Close your eyes.

    • 2

Begin breathing slowly, deeply and evenly. Feel your body relaxing as you continue breathing. Continue breathing this way throughout the entire chakra meditation.

    • 3

Visualize your root chakra, located at the base of the spine, as a red spinning disk that is hesitant and sluggish. Mentally speed it up. “See” it spin faster and more evenly, feeling its warmth spread throughout your genital area. The root regulates your “flight or fight” response.”

    • 4

Visualize your sacral chakra as an orange, slowly spinning disk. “Watch” it as it starts spinning faster. Feel it invigorate your lower stomach and reproductive area. The sacral chakra, located a few inches above your pubic bone, regulates your creative and reproductive faculties.

    • 5

Visualize your solar plexus chakra as a dimly lit, slowly spinning yellow disk. “See” it start spinning faster. “Watch” it as its light gets brighter the faster it spins. Feel its warmth spread throughout your abdominal region. The solar plexus chakra, located two inches above your navel, regulates your confidence and sense of personal power.

    • 6

Visualize your heart chakra as a green, sluggishly moving disk. “See” it speed up. Feel its vibration in your chest as it speeds up. The heart chakra, located at the center of your chest, regulates your ability to love.

    • 7

Visualize your throat chakra as a blue, slowly spinning disk. “See” it speed up. Feel its warmth spread throughout your throat area. Your throat chakra, located at the lowest part of your throat, right above your collarbone, regulates communication.

    • 8

Visualize your third eye chakra as an indigo-colored, rotating globe. “Watch” for a minute, as it seems labored in its movement. Mentally speed it up. “Watch” it turn at a dizzying speed. Feel its warmth in the center of your forehead. Your third eye chakra, located in the center of your forehead, regulates your intuition.

    • 9

Visualize your crown chakra as a violet-colored, or white, disk spinning on the top of your head. “Watch” as it spins slowly, at first, then “speed” it up. “See” the top of your head glowing. Your crown chakra, located at the top of your head, regulates your spiritual nature.

    • 10

Visualize a beam of white light coming up from the floor, slowly coursing through your legs, then up the center of each of your chakras, from the root to the crown. When the light reaches the top of your head, mentally “pull” it down, over your body, encasing your body in a brilliant white bubble. Sit in this bubble of light, feeling calm and peaceful, for as long as you like.
