The Bb6, also known as the B flat 6 chord, is an advanced chord that can be played on the ukulele. This chord is most commonly played in the key of Bb. When playing in the key of Bb, the Bb6 chord will usually follow the Bb chord. The Bb6 chord is very similar to the Bb chord--the fingering and sound of the chords are almost the same. However, after playing the ukulele for awhile, the distinction between the two becomes very clear.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Hold the neck of the ukulele near the string spacer with your left hand. Keep the neck between the left thumb and left index finger. Press the left thumb behind the neck of the ukulele directly behind the first bar. Using the right arm, reach over the front center of the ukulele body and hold underneath with the right hand.

  2. Step 2

Move the left index finger over to the first bar located between the string spacer and first fret. With the tip of the left index finger, hold down the E string. Using the same finger, also hold down the A string on the first bar directly underneath the E string between the string spacer and the first fret.

  3. Step 3

Hold down the C string that is located on the second bar between the first and second fret with the tip of the left middle finger. Rest the left ring finger on the left middle finger to keep it away from the strings and frets.

Firmly press the left fingers down on the assigned strings while keeping them between the frets and away from unassigned strings. Use the right hand to strum over all of the strings near the center of the ukulele body to hear the Bb6 chord.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Bb chord has the same fingering as the Bb6 chord. However, to play the Bb chord, you need to add the left ring finger to the G string on the third bar between the second and third frets.
  • "Bar" is the area between the frets on the ukulele neck.
  • The string spacer is located at the top of the neck and is used to separate the ukulele strings as they run along the neck or fingering board.
  • "Frets" are thin pieces of metal that separate the bars on the ukulele neck.
