Instructions

    • 1

Eat breakfast at Polly's on the Pier. Request a table outside and enjoy the sunshine and great view of the water. Order one of Polly's extra-large muffins (it's offered up as a bread option). If you think you may want to go whale watching, visit the booth right next to Polly's.

    • 2

Walk down the International Boardwalk and grab a mid-morning coffee at Kona Koffee.

    • 3

Continue walking the International Boardwalk. Stop into the many souvenier shops, such as the toe-ring shop or the arts-and-crafts store that makes homemade crafts out of beachy items like starfish, seashells and sand.

    • 4

Check out all the live sea creatures offered for sale at the boardwalk's two seafood markets. Their typical selections include crabs, mussels, clams and lots of fish on ice.

    • 5

Visit the arcade, which is designed like a traditional carnival, and play a few games or ride the Tilt-A-Whirl. The arcade has everything from the latest video games to throwbacks like Pac-Man. They also have a few carnival games where you can win prizes.

    • 6

Take the stairway right outside the arcade to continue on to the Redondo Beach Pier.

    • 7

Stop off at the harbor where you can purchase tickets for a glass-bottom boat ride and other boat tours. You can also rent kayaks, waterbikes and a variety of other water toys from these vendors.

    • 8

Have lunch at New Tony's on the Pier. If you're up for it, grab a drink from Tony's bar, which is on the restaurant's second floor and shaped like an observation deck. The bar's circular room gives you a 360-degree view of the pier, city and ocean.

    • 9

Walk along the triangle-shaped pier, observing the fishermen and the catches they make.

    • 10

Visit the shops at the two bases of the pier, including Mermaid’s Dowry, Shark Attack, Slightly Different, the Sunshine Kite Company and Kobe Pearl, where you can pick out your own oyster and keep its pearl.

    • 11

Listen to live music at Naja's Place and sample one of their hundreds of beers on tap.

    • 12

Enjoy some time on the beach or inside Seaside Lagoon, an ocean-like play zone with a large fountain, waterslide, volleyball court and jungle gym.

    • 13

Drive to Riviera Village and visit the art galleries, antique stores and upscale boutiques. Though it's still in Redondo, the village does not maintain the beachside theme that the boardwalk and pier do--its atmosphere is similar to other tree-lined neighborhood shopping districts.

    • 14

Have dinner at one of the village's many restaurants, including the Redondo Beach Brewing Co., H.T. Grill or Zazou Restaurant. Finish off the day with a cocktail at Hennessey's.

Tips & Warnings

  • There is quite a bit to do in Redondo Beach, and it's easy to get bogged down in shopping, beach time, water sports or the many pubs. Fortunately, most of the activities are very close together, so if you start early enough and are gung-ho to get everything done, you should be able to.
