Let the experts remove toxic mold.
Let the experts remove toxic mold.

You have mold. Although not all molds are toxic to human beings, none of them should be ignored. If the mold in your home turns out to be a dangerous variety, you will need a mold remediation team to handle the removal process. When mold is disturbed, it becomes airborne and more dangerous. It’s important to understand the process of mold remediation.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Hire a reputable mold remediation team. Check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints lodged against them and ask for a list of their last five customers to check references.

  2. Step 2

Prepare yourself for the process of mold remediation. The first thing the team will do is pinpoint the source of water causing the mold to flourish. Although they will not fix the problem, they will let you know what needs to be done.

  3. Step 3

Leave your home while the mold remediation team comes in. Don’t be surprised to see them show up in white suits looking like something from a space movie.

  4. Step 4

Your heating and air conditioning units will be turned off during the remediation processes to keep mold spores from circulating to new places in your home.

  5. Step 5

The team will gather and dispose of all moldy drywall and carpet and place large heating fans on any damp wood.

  6. Step 6

After the removal and drying process, the mold remediation team will spray and antifungal agent on all the exposed surfaces to kill any remaining mold spores and prevent new spores from adhering.

  7. Step 7

Now it’s time to hire a contractor to replace any carpeting and drywall that were removed and to fix the water leak.
