Knit a Cable With Eyelets

This particular cable stitch is a beautiful and elegant stitch that is a small change from the old classic. It consists of columns of repeated cables with a small eyelet in the center of each cable. A unique stitch, referred to as "crossing together," similar to cabling, is used. This cable is a great way to spice up a dishcloth, scarf, socks or even a blanket if you really enjoy cabling.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose the yarn you want to work with and needles that match the weight of your yarn (see yarn packaging for needle size suggestions).

    • 2

      Cast on your stitches in multiples of 8 + 1 in your preferred method of casting on (for example: 8 x 4 = 32 + 1 = 33 stitches).

The first row is knitted up as follows:Purl 1, cross 3 together (this is done by slipping the next 2 stitches onto a cable needle and holding them at the back of your work while knitting the next stitch from the left-hand needle, then knitting the 2 from the cable needle together), purl 1, knit 3, purl 1.Repeat these instructions, eliminating the first purl stitch, to the end of the row.

    • 4

Knit row 2 as follows:Knit 1, purl 3, knit 1, purl 1, yarn over (wrap the yarn around the needle to create another stitch), purl 1, knit 1.Repeat these instructions, eliminating the first knit stitch, to the end of the row.

Row 3 is knit as follows:Purl 1, knit 3, purl 1, cross 3 together (see row 1 for instructions), purl 1.Repeat these instructions, eliminating the first purl stitch, to the end of the row.
