Paper plate snowmen are classic crafts that kids and adults of all ages can enjoy making together. You can use the opportunity to talk about how winter is coming and make plans together for the holiday season. You might make a crowd of these friendly looking snowmen as a winter display for school or just to stick in the window or on the wall. You can even use them to decorate the walls around your Christmas tree or to create a pretty winter scene for the fridge.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Staple the edges of one small paper plate and two large paper plates together. The smallest plate should be on top as the snowman's head.

  2. Step 2

Cut out an orange triangle shape, a black top hat shape and a red scarf or bow tie shape out of construction paper. The triangle will be his carrot nose and the scarf or bow tie will cover the staples in your snowman's "neck."

  3. Step 3

Decorate your snowman's face, body and accessories. You can glue the google eyes to his face along with the carrot nose, then use the magic markers to draw on other facial features like a mouth, rosy cheeks, eyebrows and ears. Use the pompoms for buttons and to decorate the top hat and scarf.

  4. Step 4
If you want to add sticks for arms, then you will need to glue them on using tacky glue or a glue gun. They can make your snowman less sturdy, however.

If you want to add sticks for arms, then you will need to glue them on using tacky glue or a glue gun. They can make your snowman less sturdy, however.

Glue the top hat onto your snowman's head and the scarf across his neck . You should use plenty of glue so that they will hold firmly all winter and not peel off over time.

  5. Step 5

Let your snowman dry for at least an hour. If you used a lot of glue, you may need to allow him to dry overnight. Once all the glue is fixed and all of your snowman's parts are secure, you can hang him on a wall or anywhere that you will be able to see and enjoy him.

Tips & Warnings
  • Decorate your snowman however you like. If you are making snowmen as a family, then you might want to personalize each snowman--or snowgirl, snowboy or snowwoman--so that it is easy to tell which family member is which when the snowpeople are all lined up on the wall or fridge.
