It has been estimated that there are about 300 million people in the world who speak Arabic. This makes it one of the most popular languages, and therefore speaking it can open up a host of potential business opportunities and other benefits. Moreover, since Arabic is perceived to be a complicated language to learn, the benefits for anyone taking the time to learn not only the spoken word but also the written language cannot be overstated. Read on and learn how to benefit from learning the Arabic language in today’s business, political and cultural environment.

From Quick Guide: Introduction to Arabic
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Become a language teacher for entrepreneurs. Business professionals from all backgrounds are discovering the Middle East as one of the most desirable areas for outsourcing a business or forging new contacts. You may sign up with a university, adult education venue, or simply offer classes on your own as an entrepreneur.

  2. Step 2

Investigate the need for journalists and travel writers among online publications as well as in print magazines. Travel at the behest of a magazine—either as an employee or independent contractor—and write about what you find in the targeted areas where Arabic is spoken. You may be instrumental in providing cutting edge interviews, man-on-the-street opinion pieces and travelogues, as well as collaborating on books about foreign countries.

  3. Step 3

Work with the Justice Department as a translator or interpreter. You may be called upon to work in the United States to interpret at trials or to offer translations of secret documents. This might require you to obtain a security clearance from the State Department. You may also be asked to travel to different countries where Arabic is spoken to be part of an ambassadorial envoy.

  4. Step 4

Find employment in the public sector to help members of the Arabic speaking communities in America to find access for healthcare, education and other basic needs.

  5. Step 5

Become an advocate for Arab Americans and those who are currently alleging civil rights abuses. By speaking Arabic you can benefit the communities of those who need representation and who are not heard adequately because of the language gap. Consider obtaining a paralegal education to help attorneys involved with members of the Arab community.

  6. Step 6

Open your own import and export business. Forge business relationships in Arabic-speaking countries and open a business that handles the import and export of goods, groceries and other much sought after items. You may even furnish your own store or simply provide this service to already existing commercial venues.

  7. Step 7

Represent the interests of Arabic cultural exhibits in the United States. You may be the American representative for an Arabic performance artist, the liaison for a cultural exchange program between museums, or you may serve as the interpreter and docent for a traveling cultural display.
