Everyone wants to have a wonderful smile complete with glistening pearly whites. However, getting gorgeous white teeth isn’t always an easy process. There are many steps and precautions an individual must take in order to get whiter teeth. While regular trips to the dentist will help ensure that you catch any problems before they start, the results of a dental cleaning are usually short lived. In order to get whiter teeth, you must be proactive in your everyday life.

From Quick Guide: Teeth Cleaning
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Whitening toothpaste
  • Whitening strips
  • Whitening gel
  • Portable toothbrush
  • Electric toothbrush
  • Mouthwash
  1. Step 1

Brush as needed. Many individuals only brush twice a day. However, when you consume coffee, tea, soda or red wine, it’s important to brush your teeth as soon as possible. These food items have the ability to stain your teeth. Carry around a portable toothbrush and toothpaste so you can brush on the go.

  2. Step 2

Use a whitening toothpaste. There are many different kinds of whitening toothpastes on the market that will help you keep your smile bright. Some of the top brands include Crest, Colgate and Arm & Hammer. If desired, you can also follow up with a whitening rinse after you brush your teeth in order to get maximum results.

  3. Step 3

Use at-home whitening treatments. Head to your local drug store or discount store and pick up an at-home whitening treatment. You can use whitening strips or even customized mouth pieces with whitening gel. These kits can yield excellent results.

  4. Step 4

Choose beverages carefully. Many individuals are coffee and tea fanatics. However, consuming these delicious hot beverages can cause your teeth to become yellow and stained. Limit the amount of tea, coffee and soda that you drink. When you can, choose herbal tea instead of regular tea or coffee. Drinking soda with a straw can also help minimize staining.

  5. Step 5

Chew whitening gum. It’s a common practice to chew gum either after a meal or when you’re in need of some breath freshening. Opt for a whitening gum and chew it regularly. Not only will it give you fresh breath but you will also get the added perk of whiter teeth.

Tips & Warnings
  • Stock up on herbal teas and straws. Consume herbal tea instead of coffee or regular tea and if you have to drink a soda, use a straw. These two simple steps will minimize teeth staining.
  • Don’t over exceed the recommendations on home whitening treatments. Often times, these products do cause sensitivity and using them in excess can result in a painful experience.
